Payday Super kicks off on 1 July 2026. The new payday super laws mark one of the biggest changes to our super system in decades and is a big win for workers and your super balances.
CBUS and your union have been fighting for this change for many years to make sure workers get what they are owed.
What’s changing?
Under the new Payday Super laws, employers must pay your super at the same time they pay your wages.
So, if you’re paid weekly or fortnightly, your super contributions will start hitting your account weekly or fortnightly too.
Why it matters
Getting super paid more frequently is a win for workers. It means:
- Your money starts working for you sooner – hitting your account earlier means it’s invested earlier, giving it more time to grow.
- You can track your super more easily – no more long waits to see whether payments have landed.
- It helps prevent unpaid super – one of the biggest issues facing workers today.
Unpaid super is a serious issue
Unpaid or delayed super reduces your final balance, hurts your investment returns, and can cause insurance to lapse, leaving workers unprotected when they need support most.
That’s why we actively recover unpaid super for our members. Not many super funds do this.
Last financial year alone, we recovered almost $200 million for members.
Over the past decade, that total has reached more than $1.13 billion returned to workers’ super accounts.
