Standards Australia regularly schedules reviews of Standards to ensure they are always kept up to date and relevant – this includes changes to industry practices, necessary equipment and regulatory obligations.
The following high voltage Australian standards have now been approved by Standards Australia.
- AS 5804.1: High-voltage live work, Part 1: General
- AS 5804.2: High-voltage live work, Part 2: Glove and barrier work
- AS 5804.3: High-voltage live work, Part 3: Stick work
- AS 5804.4: High-voltage live work, Part 4: Barehand work
The purpose for each of these new standards is to set out the minimum standard for glove and barrier, live stick work and barehand work to protect workers and the public.
“For every new standard, Standards Australia bring together key parties and stakeholders to form a technical committee. These committees collaborate to develop standards, which are of value to Australia, its businesses, and its people. The benefits of our work are clear; with stronger standards in place, Australia can enjoy greater economic efficiency and increased prominence on the international stage. Robust standards also help support our local communities by building a safer, more sustainable environment.” – Standards Australia
The ETU were on the technical committee that developed these Standards. They are an essential component of ensuring safety for ETU members.
Safety standards can be the difference between going home from work safely and not going home at all. The ETU is committed to ensuring Australia has the highest possible standards for all electrical work and that those standards are enforced to ensure electrical trades workers can work safely and return home safely.
Safety is union business.
