Wage recession hits tradies and high vis workers

Scott Morrison is completely missing in action on wages, with today’s wages data confirming the nation’s tradies and high vis workers are living through a wages recession.

Real wages shrank 3 per cent over the past year, after six consecutive quarters of wages falling behind inflation.

Electrical Trades Union National Secretary, Michael Wright said:

“Australia’s tradies and high vis workers are living through a wages recession. Month on month, year on year, their living standards have declined.

“Crumbling living standards are a direct result of deliberate choices by Scott Morrison. By their own admission the Liberals have designed a system to keep wages low.

“Collective bargaining is restricted, insecure employment is rife and the gig economy is fraying the very fabric of our wages system. All these problems have festered for years and now the Liberals want another term to let the problem get worse.

“Scott Morrison can’t keep shirking responsibility. Once again he says it’s not his job to manage the real economy, the economy that we all actually live in.”
