This month the ETU donated $10K to community sporting clubs on Kangaroo Island from our National Bushfire Relief Fund.
The island, which lies off the coast of South Australia, was severely impacted by the catastrophic bushfires last summer, burning almost half the island. These funds will go towards helping the community rebuild and recover.
Four sporting clubs including the Kangaroo Island Football League and Cricket, Netball and Basketball associations will receive $2,500 each.
The national bushfire fund was set up to assist ETU and CEPU members who lost their homes in the bushfires or communities that were badly affected. This year we have donated to a member in Newcastle and a community bus project in Rappville, Northern NSW.
International unions generously contributed to the Bushfire Relief Fund including local branches 66, 570, 661 and 527 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) and local branches Northwest 9/0541 and SC/164/BAE of Unite the Union (Unite).
The Kangaroo Island Netball Association said:
“A BIG THANK YOU to the CEPU State Councillor Jason Lailey & CEPU State Secretary John Adley for their very generous and unexpected donation on behalf of the Electrical Trades Union to the Kangaroo Island Netball Association along with KI Cricket, KI Basketball & KI Football. Our association looks forward to using this donation towards the development of our junior and senior members in coaching and umpiring throughout season 2021. KINA looks forward to an ongoing relationship in the years ahead. Thank you.”
The Basketball Association echoed the sentiment and plans to put this donation towards the purchase of training equipment and development of their grass roots players.
A huge thank you to all of our members who contributed to the Bushfire Relief Fund.
