Senate Inquiring into Bill to Change Howard Government’s Anti-Worker Building Laws

Monday, January 23, 2012
The ETU and other construction unions have made joint submissions to the Senate Inquiry into the Government’s Building and Construction Industry Improvement Amendment (Transition to Fair Work) Bill 2011.

While it would bring about some improvements, the Bill falls far short of delivering the justice demanded by construction workers and their unions.

“It’s time the Gillard Government delivered for ETU members working in building and construction.  The ALP promised to scrap Howards anti-worker construction laws over 5 years ago and we’re still waiting.  The ABCC must go, not just be renamed.  All workers should be treated equally, regardless of the industry that they work in”, said David Mier, the Construction Organiser of the ETU National Office.

A copy of the combined union submission can be downloaded here.

The Senate Inquiry is due to report on 29 February 2012.
